PETAL AND ROSE
31.3.02

Today will be the only time in my life that I will mention 'flowers' favourably. I am not a fan of the physical floral variety. But last night showed the emergence of a different variety, the human variety.

Firstly before I get to the 'flowers' I shall give you the lead up of my night, and most of the day.

Step 1: Deal with five hours of screaming children and smooshed chocolate Easter eggs.

Step 2: Leave work, try to scab a lift of a friend to Albury so we can go catch dinner and a movie.

Step 3: Succeed in scabbing a lift,

Step 4: Go to Albury, and wait for another friend who is joining us.

Step 5: Get dinner, pizza, at La Prochetta.

Step 6: Go to the Ice Creamery to buy ice-cream to sneak in friends handbags into the cinema.

Step 7: Buy tickets and go to film

Step 8: Wander around town looking for and thinking of a good place to play stick. [pool]

Step 9: Play stick

Step 10: Go to pub

That was the abridged version, details would take to long. Dinner was good, movie was bloody funny [and an animated Disney movie], game of stick was short due to the club shutting the snooker room, pub was a blast.

Now off to the 'petal' reference. You may have remembered me mentioning Petal, or Petulia in an earlier entry. Well last night I happened to find out that she likes me. And she is in all seriousness when she says that. This scares me. Well I would like to officially thank Sarah [a chick I went to high school with, and who remembers me, not sure if that is good or bad] for notifying me of Petals' 'admiration' for me. I am really scared now. Its not like O don't want a girlfriend etc, but Petal. She doesn't really seem to strike me as someone I could develop a relationship with.

Here are a few [petty] reasons why I don't think this would work] :

Mullet : How do you say 'out of date', or 'not a chick cut'?

Tucked in shirt : Permanently tucked in, I am unsure you moved in such restricted clothing

28 yrs old : Yeah she is a bit older than me

No Full Time job/study : What does she want to be when she grows up?

Cats : She lives with two of them, 'her babies', her words not mine.

Speak : She doesn't, unless she is quite inebriated

Picky : I am being awfully picky about her, and my suddenly rising standards.

Now despite what that list says, I am not trying to offend anyone who has any of those characteristics, but I don't think they are what I am looking for in a partner. At least not a longer term partner anyway. Please tell me if you think I am being way too picky!

So she likes me, and Sarah is pushing for me to answer her as to whether I like Petal, she is nice, but that is not what Sarah or Petal are looking for from me.

Now moving right along to Rose.

Not the sweet smelling flower, but she did smell pretty good. hehe. Sorry I couldn't help noticing that. She is a reason why I like Easter again now. Easter Hockey Carnival held in Albury brought her up to the area for the four day weekend. I am happy about that. I now like hockey too. Purely for giving me at least three hours of conversation last night and early this morning.

Scary similarities are all too prevalent between us. Both studying at LaTrobe, her in Bundoora me in Albury/Wodonga. A love of techno music, and really old music. A love of dancing, [while inebriated at least] and an acceptance as water as a viable option while within the confines of the pub. Rose too is cat person, so I found out after we left the pub to grab some food at Sweethearts Pizza. Cats were indeed emblazoning themselves over her socks. Black cats.

Tid-bits of information that I 'know' about Rose:

She plays on the Victoria state hockey team

Plays/trains for hockey 6 days a week

She is about 18yrs old.

Has been playing hockey or some smaller kid version of it for the past 15 years

Dark brown short slightly wavy hair

The most interesting eyebrows I have happened to notice recently

Has a habit of sticking her tongue out while talking on the phone with drunk team mates

The Easter carnival is her first while being of legal drinking age; but that hasn't stopped her in the past

Was going to end up crashing on the floor of some of her team mates room last night

Will be floating down the river some time today

Plays the guitar a little bit

Has no rhythm so doesn't play the drums though she wants too

Loves cats

Moved out of home at the end of yr 12 [high school] and closer to uni

Has played hockey in Thailand, Germany, and New Zealand

Has travelled in each of these countries after the tournaments were complete

Got a pretty cool tattoo on her left hip bone when she was in Germany

She doesn't have anything pierced

Wants to do the rest of Europe and Asia

Is studying prosthetics and care work for amputees

Works part time in a hockey/sports shop

Is a big fan of Mooks clothing

Gets most of her clothes as gifts, or as a result of 'borrowing' from flatmates

Is extraordinarily colour coordinated

Was bridesmaid to her sister about a month ago

Did not have fun with the hairdresser the morning of the ceremony

Wore her hair the way she wanted to, and ended up doing it herself

Likes the 'wet look'

Lives by the commandments of gel/wax and defies gravity at most available occasions

Has an awfully cute mop look down pat after three hours of dancing

Yet she hates her hair, some times

Offered to walk me home, till I estimated the time it would take for her to do so. [2 hours or so]

Could easily fall asleep at Sweethearts Pizza, in the booth. [too comfy]

Gets cold easily

Was ever so grateful for me walking her home/ to her reserved bit of floor [see above accommodation note]

Got followed home by a cat, was still playing with the cat when I did end up leaving later in the morning.

Ended up lying on the pavement outside the pub/hotel she was staying at playing with the cat till my taxi turned up

Got all clucky when the cat started purring while she was holding it

Admits to getting clucky around kids, but doesn't really see herself ever having any

At least not yet anyway

Will be coming back again next year

Well there you go, there are about 45 random things I happen to have found out about Rose. Of course she will only ever be known as that as I didn't get her surname, or any contact details, but I am sure I could track her down. Thanks to the uni connection. Someone has gotta have seen her around campus.

OK, I think I pay way too much attention. But after about three hours in someone's company you tend to remember things. Of course, very varied details about their life, and aspirations, and experiences. All the interesting yet possibly not so important things.

OK, I gotta go do something else. Something, anything at all. Something to distract me from thinking too much about last night, and the great time I had, and the perfection within the floral arrangement in my life. hehe. Sorry that was too crony, even for me.

Oh yeah, and I also got introduced to the bar chick from the Termo. So this hello goes out to Nicky, or maybe that was Micky. Swear it was Nicky, but it was pretty loud where she introduced herself. She was enjoying her night on the other side of the bar. She's living it up as per usual. She is always having fun, behind the bar or not. Shout'n out to Nicky! keep up the moves babe.
